Human milk oligosaccharide

Human milk oligosaccharides (HMO) are a fraction of oligosaccharides consisting of approx. 200 individual isoforms, representing the third largest solid component in human milk. HMO are associated with beneficial effects by serving as prebiotic candidates for the gut microbiome, inhibiting (intestinal) pathogen infection, affecting immune cell development and maturation, and potentially supporting cognitive development (Bode. 2012).
