Hypogalactia describes perceived or actual reduced (breast) milk production. It can have various causes like preterm birth, anxiety, fatigue or stress as well as separation of the mother-infant dyad, illness or indirect lactation (e.g. usage of breast pumps). Hypogalactia is the most frequent reason for early breastfeeding cessation and medical consultation in the first months after birth (Wilinska & Schleußner, 2015).
