BSCFA; Branched short-chain fatty acids are synthesised by bacterial fermentation from the branched amino acids valine, leucine, and isoleucine. Isobutyrate, isovaleriate, and 2-methyl butyrate are BSCFA and make out about 5% of total colonic SCFA (Ríos-Covián et al. 2016).
