Cardiovascular diseases

Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) comprise diseases of the brain, heart, and blood vessels i.e. the circulatory system. CVD are the leading cause of death worldwide for men and women alike. Main risk factors for CVD progression include physical inactivity, smoking, overweight/obesity, unhealthy diet, diabetes mellitus type I and II, dyslipidaemia, age, and psychological illnesses such as depression and stress (World Health Organization, 2011).
