Tight junctions

Tight junctions are a network of proteins in between epithelial cells that regulates the intercellular permeability. Tight junctions have an important role In the intestinal epithelium and contribute to the maintenance of the intestinal barrier function. They are part of the lateral membrane of epithelial cells and connect them to each other. In the interplay of many tight junction proteins a structural network is formed, sealing the intercellular epithelial space (Lee et al., 2018)
