Diarrhoea / Diarrhea, functional

Defined by the Rome IV criteria as the daily, painless and recurrent passage of three or more large unformed stools lasting ≥ 4 weeks (Benninga et al., 2016).

According to Rome IV the diagnostic criteria for functional diarrhoea “must include all of the following (Benninga et al., 2016):
1. Daily painless, recurrent passage of 4 or more large, unformed stools
2. Symptoms last more than 4 weeks
3. Onset between 6 and 60 months of age
4. No failure to thrive if caloric intake is adequate”
