Chorionic villus sampling

Chorionic villus sampling (CVS) is a test in which a sample of the chorionic villi is removed from the placenta for genetic testing. This sample may either be removed via the cervix or through the abdominal wall. Chorionic villi are part of placental tissues with the same genetic makeup as that of the foetus (Chasen, 2014).
